Science Quiz
Science Quiz is one of the key student activities organised by the Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi, every year with the objective of promoting scientific awareness, curiosity, teamwork, and a spirit of healthy academic competition among school students. It provides an engaging platform where students can apply their knowledge, recall scientific facts, think quickly, and work collaboratively while exploring important developments in science and technology.
The Science Quiz is conducted for students of Classes IX to XII from Government, Government Aided and Private Unaided recognised schools under the Directorate of Education, GNCT of Delhi. Participating schools first organise the activity at the School Level and select one team comprising three students for participation at the Zonal Level.
The activity follows a progressive structure extending from the School Level to the Zonal Level, Science Centre Level and State Level. After the Zonal Level competition, teams securing the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions are forwarded to their respective Science Centres. The Science Centres subsequently organise the competition among the selected zonal teams and forward the teams securing the first three positions for participation in the State Level Science Quiz organised by the Science Branch.

Format of the Science Quiz
The Science Quiz has been structured through a series of competitive rounds designed to assess students at different stages. This competition comprises the Screening Round, General Round, Pass-on Round, and Rapid Fire Round. Each round has a distinct format, and every round functions as an elimination stage.
Screening Round
The Screening Round is a written test consisting of 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) for each team. The questions are provided in both Hindi and English medium, with each question carrying a maximum of one mark. Teams are given 20 minutes to complete the test. On the basis of performance in this round, the top 24 teams qualify for the General Round.
General Round
In the General Round, each participating team is asked three questions. Questions allotted to a particular team are not forwarded to another team for answering. Each question remains open for 30 seconds and carries 4 marks for a correct response. This round gives students an opportunity to demonstrate subject knowledge while arriving at answers within a specified time as a team.
Pass-on Round
The Pass-on Round introduces an additional element of attentiveness and opportunity. The teams are seated in a circular, semi-circular or other single closed-loop formation, and each team is initially given three questions.
For a question allotted directly to a team, 30 seconds are provided and a correct answer carries 4 marks. If the team is unable to answer correctly, the question may be passed to the next willing team, which can earn 2 marks for a correct answer within 15 seconds. If that team is also unable to answer correctly, the question may be forwarded to the next eligible team for 1 mark, with 10 seconds available for answering. No further pass-on is permitted thereafter. In this round, MCQs and True/False questions are not allowed in this round.
Rapid Fire Round
The final competitive stage is the Rapid Fire Round, involving six teams. Each team is presented with 10 questions, and every question must be answered within 5 seconds after completion of the question statement. Questions in this round are not passed on to other teams. The top three teams emerging from this round are declared the winners, securing the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
